Examples of creative value engineering include:-- Redesigned the layout for replacement rhodium reactors to avoid installation's dependence on the annual plant shutdown. The staggered installations provided time for proofing of new software and training of personnel on actual equipment before each startup phase. The safety project involved control of exothermic reactions, which if out of control, the plant must be evacuated.--- Solved a 30-year-old safety problem for converting slitter blade guarding.--- Convinced 3 suppliers to bid a non-standard equipment design to avoid high installation costs.--- Lead design team on new fluff pulp machine & stock prep installation resulting in zero construction rework (2-4% was typical rework in the industry).
