As founder and principal of Jim Roe Museum Planning, I help organizations develop places and experiences in which people enjoy a kind of learning that’s guided by their own interests, backgrounds, and motivations. I consult for a range of organizations—from historic sites and museums to parks, environmental-education facilities, science centers, and children’s museums. My work is based on the principle that great visitor experiences begin with inviting and evocative impressions and conclude with newly revealed perspectives on nature, science, history, and art. As an exhibits specialist, I’ve been working at the forefront of the field for more than 25 years. Over the past 10 years, I’ve contributed to more than 50 major projects across the country, providing me with a deep understanding of the challenges and asprirations that influence today’s informal-learning landscape. A proven collaborator, I work extensively with architects, landscape architects, exhibit designers, and film and media producers. My services include facilitated workshops, community and stakeholder interviews, interpretive planning for history and environmental education, exhibit and program concepts, goal setting for visitor engagement, and project-development strategies.
