Commanded this remote Marine Corps installation in the Eastern Sierra Nevada mountains, comprising more than 62,000 acres, with facilities and services for over 2000 people. Responsible for budget execution, force protection, direction of the training program, and relationship building/outreach to local, state, and federal government representatives. Responsible for 11 formal programs of instruction as well as six Service Level Training Events annually. Pursued and gained approval for 6 new Military Occupational Specialties (3 each for Officer/Enlisted) for military Mountain Leaders (summer/winter/ both), to recognize and track these unique skills. Managed a 346 acre base camp with over 40 buildings (classrooms, dining facility, stables), a 1000 foot Expeditionary Airfield (EAF), independent power generation, and wastewater treatment plant. Oversight of 111 family housing units, dormitories for over 2000, 5 miles of improved roads, 40 miles of unimproved roads, and a vehicle fleet of over 200. Managed Marine Corps Police and Fire Departments serving two separate communities and with significant Mutual Support Agreements with neighboring civilian agencies. Supervised Safety and Environmental compliance for 11 wide-ranging departments and offices at two installations. Oversight on execution of budgets up to $40 Million and personnel payrolls of up to $6.5 Million. Exercised oversight on fundraising, budget planning, and execution for separate line of Family Readiness Funds. Pursued and gained approval for MCMWTC to qualify for Independent Duty Funds for all servicemembers stationed at MCMWTC; a five-fold increase in funds available for these critical quality of life programs. Significant interaction with officials from US Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and numerous state and local stakeholders. Led internal and external communications through Town Hall style events regarding how current and future operations would impact employees and their families.

Stuttgart, Germany

Deputy Commander for all Marine Corps Forces in Europe and Africa. Exercised command authority over personnel assigned to the headquarters. Made numerous trips on behalf of the commander to African nations with whom the Marine Corps had a training partnership, as well as the Republic of Georgia, where we had our largest standing training and equipping program.

Stuttgart Area, Germany

Responsible for long range and contingency planning efforts for Marine forces in support of both US European Command and US Africa Command.

Afghanistan

Operations Officer for the Marine Air Ground Task Force that deployed to Afghanistan as the core component of the Regional Command (Southwest) staff in January 2013 and returned in Feb 2014.

Primarily responsible for coordinating the training and certification of the east coast Marine Expeditionary Units.

Coordinated a 14-month effort across an interdisciplinary team, representing 20 internal, interagency and international partners, to develop a comprehensive revision of the United States Central Command Theater Strategy that articulated the broad US security interests in the region and how they would be pursued. Principal briefer for USCENTCOM Command and Strategy briefs to two-star and below audiences. Often supported higher level visits as J-5 lead. Lead Action Officer for CENTCOM inputs to the Comprehensive Joint Assessment and responses to Joint Staff level products such as the Chairman's Risk Assessment.

Led the battalion through two combat deployments; to Afghanistan and Iraq.
