Jim Moore, recently retired from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, is a Washington, D.C.-based writer, editor, and photojournalist with 30-plus years in the legislative and executive branches of the federal government and in the news and magazine industries. On Capitol Hill, Jim was a House and Senate press secretary, a military legislative aide for a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, and an investigator and editor for the Senate’s Gulf War Special Investigations Unit. In the Executive Branch, Jim served as a special assistant to the Secretaries of Transportation and Education, and as an executive speechwriter to four Secretaries of Veterans Affairs. In between bouts of government service, Jim was the editor-in-chief of Amtrak’s Arrive magazine, and the executive editor of Military Exchange and Military Grocer, trade magazines covering the broad world of military commissaries and on-base stores. As a freelance editor and ghost writer, Jim nursed back to health half-a-dozen books covering politics, economics, and 9-11, as well as several government financial reports.As a photojournalist, Jim was represented by Gamma-Liaison News Agency (now Getty), and his pictures appeared in most major U.S. newsweeklies and in national and foreign daily newspapers. . He is a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post, and the Daily Download.Brackett Boulevard is named for Jim's grandfather, Charles W. Brackett, screenwriter and producer, whose four Academy Awards include Sunset Boulevard, The Lost Weekend, and Titanic.

The Metropolitan Washington Ear is a free service for blind, visually impaired, and physically disabled people who cannot effectively read print. I record sections of the Washington Post one to two times per week for same-day broadcast.

Former speechwriter for the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, and Chief of Staff, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the second-largest Cabinet Department. Researched topics, interviewed all points of contact, met with the principals, developed suggested speech themes, prepared talking points and venue and audience analyses, drafted full speech, edited and redrafted as required. Wrote the basic style guide for the speechwriting staff. Voiceover talent for the Office of Public Affairs' audio and video department.
