At Main Street Renewal, I was a social work intern for the CARES program. This program is partnered with the Steve Hicks School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin. My role consisted of helping residents during difficult times, referring these individuals to individualized resources, communicating and assessing needs, and looking for resources. I spoke with the residents who were seeking help and provided them with the necessary support, customer service, and emotional support. I utilized a variety of social work skills and frameworks when speaking with residents to help empower them, acknowledge their strengths, reach their full potential and advocate for their rights as residents. In this role, it was also necessary to speak with the other departments within Main Street Renewal, such as the renewals and collections teams, which helped me explore more solutions and opportunities for the residents in their specific cases. I learned about housing laws, real estate, and regularly used Salesforce, Yardi, Prism, and Microsoft Excel.
