Jamie is a meteorologist who has recently transitioned from the forecaster ranks at the National Weather Service (NWS) to NWS HQ where he has filled a variety of positions including Executive Officer, Program Coordination Officer, Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Portfolio Coordinator, and Senior Science Advisor in the Office of the Assistant Administrator. He first began his career with the NWS as an unpaid student intern at the Weather Forecast Office (WFO) in Blacksburg, VA where he officially became a Met-Intern in the Spring of 2015. He later was promoted to the Meteorologist position at the Raleigh WFO in the Fall of 2017. Throughout his time within the NWS, he focused heavily on communication and Impact-based Decision Support Services (IDSS) within the agency, serving as office focal point for IDSS, social media, fire weather, student interns, and local outreach initiatives throughout his WFO tenure. He also worked extensively with media partner relations, helping to conduct numerous station duty meetings, Integrated Warning Team (IWT) workshops, and other media relation activities. After achieving "deployment ready" status, he was able to conduct several on-site IDSS deployments to support local sporting events, the World Scout Jamboree, and NC Emergency Management at the Regional Control Center during the Hurricane Dorian Landfall. James graduated from Virginia Tech with degrees in Meteorology and Geography (Geospatial Environmental Analysis).
