Let's Talk About Sex in Ethiopia peer education programHope for Children Organisation (Aust)Jo initiated this sexual health and wellbeing education program in 2008 after having done voluntary work in Addis Ababa in 2005. The program was so successful that she was asked to return and continue the education. A Train the trainer program was developed along with a manual and a translator was employed to assist with the workshops. The interactive manual contains 10 sessions on learning about sexuality, puberty, relationships, decision making, assertiveness and negotiation skills, conception and contraception, sexually transmissible infections with a strong focus on prevention of HIV, and goal setting.Since 2008 2 local Ethiopian young women have been employedand continue to run the program. Over 1000 peer educators have been trained and the program is accepted and loved by the young people.Jo continues to travel to Ethiopia annually to upskill and update the staff.
