Lead official for Office for Civil Society on Localism and Big Society. Policy development of the role of the voluntary sector in Community Budgets, particularly new models for commissioning and delivering front-line services focused on the needs of communities and individuals. Managed the National Survey of Charities & Social Enterprises (www.nscsesurvey.com) and research on localism. Under the previous administration I lead work on the Local Government Performance Framework, Local Strategic Partnerships, Total Place, and managed relations with the Government Office Network.

Policy lead on identifying and sharing good practice local partnership working, including regular briefings for Ministers on policy and visits; responses to Parliamentary Questions and Ministerial correspondence. Worked on the Safer, Stronger Communities White Paper (subsequently the Local Government & Public Involvement in Health Act) including cross-governmental negotiations on establishing Local Area Agreements. Kentish Town Community Centre is a vibrant multi-purpose community resource in the heart of Kentish Town, London. Trustees are collectively responsible for the management and operation of the organisation. With the rest of the Board I provided direction, raised funds, managed finances, supported employees, developed new ideas for services and activities in conjunction with staff and users. During this period, KTCC embarked on a major fundraising project to extend the building to provide dedicated space for youth provision, which is currently under construction.

Temporary contract implementing a Local Area Agreement-funded project to develop the capacity of small and growing groups in Islington’s voluntary, community and faith sector. My role includes: • Supporting growing groups to develop strategic priorities, business and operational plan• Supporting small groups to manage themselves effectively and sustainably• Managing and distributing a budget for ICT equipment for small groups• Supervising the ICT worker, managing all project deliverables and liaising with the funder

At this state-wide provider of specialist eye, ear, nose and throat health services my work included: • Developing and implementing the hospital’s patient & public involvement programme• Managing quality improvement projects on access to the hospital for people with hearing and/or visual impairment

CIDA is a second-tier organisation for non-government agencies providing support services for people with learning disabilities in Victoria. My responsibilities included:• Advocacy and representation of member organisations• Providing policy advice to State and Commonwealth government departments • Sourcing and administration of professional development opportunities for agencies

Temporary position in the Victorian office of RACS managing the administration of the surgical training programmes in Orthopedics and Urology.

Volunteer Centre Camden exists to support and encourage volunteering and promoting equality of access to volunteer opportunities for all people in Camden. Trustees are collectively responsible for the management and operation of the organisation. I was the Board Member with responsibility for fundraising and was involved in the development of the Centre's strategic plan.

VAI is the second-tier organisation supporting and advocating for the voluntary and community sector in Islington. My responsibilities included:• Outreach, information & developmental work – delivering community capacity building, organisational development support, and funding advice to a range of local groups. • Providing funding advice to 70-80 groups a year – including organisational review; support in planning projects; identifying funding sources; writing proposals; post-grant support. • Developing and delivering training on fundraising and organisational management issues.

NIACE develops adult learning through policy, promotion and research. My responsibilities included: • Influencing the adult education agenda by providing written briefings and responses to government papers and current affairs for stakeholders. • Supporting Research & Development Officers in developing funding proposals for projects covering many aspects of adult education, particularly targeting hard-to-reach groups. • Undertaking research and analysis on a variety of education policy issues.
