Supporter Care Executive
As part of the UK and European team, I educated individuals on the work of the charity and motivating them to get involved. I promoted our aims, animal welfare news and how Animals Asia are slowly reaching the goal of ending the bear bile trade across Asia. Liaising with our supporters was a large part of the role, especially about widespread media coverage on topics such as the Yulin Dog Meat Festival. I utilised our database daily to process donations, gift aid declarations, regular gifts and deal with the UK office's expenses whilst communicating with the global team. Assisted the events team with setting up outreach and fundraising events. Help with the development and management of the Animals Asia Supporter Journey planning and implementation, with specific focus on membership continuity and recruitment.
Volunteer
I used my initiative and motivation to find further hands on animal experience during my free time around my internship in the United States of America. I was involved in dog walking and helping train dogs in the shelter’s care.
Doggie Daycare Intern
This was a company advocating all natural products. Each day 60 dogs were accommodated at the centre. I spoke to clients regularly regarding their dog’s progress and activities through the day. Clients had questions about nutrition and health, and I would recommend natural dog foods and inform them on diseases such as canine papilloma virus. I gathered a lot of hands on animal experience and learned positive reward based and clicker training. Additionally expanding my interpretation of canine behaviour and body language and the ability to explain this to owners. I gained detailed analysis skills as there were regular evaluations to complete on a range of behaviour problems occurring daily additionally enhancing my written communication. I had the drive to consistently better myself and took constructive criticism to adapt myself in becoming a better intern. This was a very high paced and stressful environment at times as I would be alone with 18-25 dogs in a room and would be solely responsible for their welfare and safety whilst under my care however I built a high-stress tolerance through this opportunity. I had the initiative to put forward my ideas to the manager and at staff meetings for ways to better the dog’s experiences whether individually or as a group. I developed a lot of positive teamwork and independence skills.
Volunteer
I assisted the welfare officer with cat nutrition and health advice when clients came into the store and was also given information on stray cats brought into our care. I learned valuable skills such as customer service, verbal communication teamwork and numeracy in a retail environment. Managing, handling and dispensing money were also key skills I gained.
