Corps Competency is to assist Veterans with barriers to employment. I have the ability to provide an abundance of different resources to Veterans and their Families. I pursue outreach with Veterans Organization, Local community entities and Transitioning Soldiers. The intent is to get the word out that about the benefits or taking advantage of the resources the American Job Center can provide with a focus of emphasizing that Veterans have Priority of Service when they visit the AJC. The other mission is to dispel the myth that the American Job Center/ Career Center are so much more than the place you apply for unemployment benefits. A synopsis of the services the DVOP provides includes; Conducts career counseling/case management; administers and interprets assessments of job skills, career interests, aptitudes, etc. Identifies employment barriers, creates customer service plans, provides job search assistance, conducts timely follow-ups, and documents counseling services. Assists customers with identifying transferable skills. Identifies training needs and makes appropriate referrals to workforce system partners. Refers to supportive services and other veteran resources and provides quality job referrals and job developments Conducts outreach to locate eligible veteran customers as well as markets services to potential customers/Veterans. The bottom line is I am committed to assisting Veterans and seeing the process through. This isn’t just something that is my Job; I am a Veteran of the U.S. Army with just under 22 years of service. I have experienced a lot of what Veterans and Transitioning are Soldiers going through and I know firsthand the anxiety and frustration. I am committed to helping our Veterans not make some of the pitfalls I experienced and assisting them and their Families get integrated in the civilian workforce. So…Help me get the word out!!!
