I began my career on the content side of newspapers and magazines before moving to the business side of online media in 1995, when I helped launch MaineToday.com. Affiliated with three newspapers and a TV station, MaineToday was recognized as a pioneer in original online content, community engagement and successful online business models, while also creating new approaches for cross-media collaboration. From 2008 through 2017, I worked with media companies and entrepreneurs as a business coach and consultant. I retired at the end of 2017. From 2010 to 2016 I had my own startup, Concert Rat, which helped people share their live-music experiences on social media. In 2011, I was brought on as one of three coaches of the experimental SuperCamp program for U.S. local news entrepreneurs, funded by the Knight and Patterson foundations. The success of that program led Knight to fund an expansion of the program, renamed Community Journalism Executive Training (CJET), and we conducted five cycles of training and mentorships. More than 75 entrepreneur journalists went through the program.I volunteer as a mentor at SCORE and in Maine's Top Gun entrepreneur training program.
