As a supervisor in the Adult Sex Crimes Unit, my job responsibilties include supervising sex crimes response and cold case detectives; reviewing and assigning sexual assault investigations; overseeing high-profile/serial sexual assault investigations; monitoring the receipt and follow-up on Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) hits associated with cold case sexual assaults, and working in concert with the Labratory Services Bureau personnel on the review of cold case sex assaults and anaylsis of DNA evidence via a NIJ DNA grant.I also host bi-monthly Maricopa county sex crimes investigator meetings to share investigative information and intelligence in an effort to link and solve cases among Valley law enforcement agencies.

John has more 30 years of law enforcement experience. His strengths include investigations as an investigator of auto thefts and sex crimes, as well as an investigative supervisor in auto theft, sex offender notifications and adult sex crimes units. He helped develop the sex offender community notification protocol for the Phoenix Police Department, and sat as a member of AZ Community Notification Guidelines Committee. He supervised response and cold case detectives in Adult Sex Crimes Unit and has assisted with and over seen many high profile serial sex assault investigations. His experience as a sex cimes investigative sergeant contributed to establishing best practices regarding the Department's response to these high profile investigations, which in turn has enhanced investigators ability to effecively and successfully solve cases.

As an Administrative Sergeant, John's job responsibilities included supervising the Administrative Secretary III and the Administrative Aide. The Administrative Sergeant reported directly to the Family Investigations Bureau Commander and is responsible for monitoring and facilitating the Bureau’s budget, transfers, audits, and numerous other administrative duties. This position also requires strong communication skills (both verbal and written), ability to work with minimal supervision, sound organizational ability, office management skills, knowledge of budget systems, and the ability to handle constantly changing deadlines. This position also required strong computer skills in the use of Microsoft Office and Microsoft Excel.

As a sergeant for the Sepcial Investigations Detail (SID) John's responsiblity was to oversee three criminal investigators who investigated allegations of criminal misconduct by police department and other city employees. This assignment possessed an inherit political climate, both internal and external, and required the need to work closely with members of the Department's Professional Standards Bureau and employee union representatives, but at the same time ensuring that the employee's Garrity Rights were not jeopardized. This position also required strong writing and investigative experience, computer skills, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain the confidentiality of these sensitive investigations so as to protect the integrity of the investigation and enhance the ability to conduct fair and objective investigations for all affected stakeholders. John also assisted in revising Department policy establishing the investigative protocol for the SID as well as assisting in developing an Access database to effectively retrain applicable SID investigative statistics for immediate and ready access due to Executive staff, PSB, Chain of Command and public inquiry.
