EDUCATION AND PROFESSIONAL STATUS: BSc (Hons) Southampton 1980; MSc (Structures) Southampton 1981; C Eng; MICE 1987; MIStructE 1990SYNOPSIS OF EXPERIENCEIn 1982 John joined Mott, Hay and Anderson, where he designed the A27 dual carriageway between Havant and Chichester, together with several side roads. This was followed by 2½ years on site as an ARE, supervising the A303 Andover to Thruxton construction.John joined Hampshire County Council in 1986, and until 1990 was engaged in the design, checking and assessment of a wide range of bridge structures in reinforced, prestressed concrete and steel composite on the Blackwater Valley Route.On rejoining Mott MacDonald as a senior engineer in 1990, John was involved in the design and strengthening of steel and concrete building structures. In addition he headed a team involved in the design/checking of several bridge structures in London Docklands redevelopment project and A20 Channel Tunnel approach roads. As a delegated Engineer, he guided and supervised several graduates in their training towards membership of ICE.Following the closure of Mott MacDonald's local office, John returned to Hampshire as Senior Engineer but was soon promoted to Principal Engineer. John has successfully designed, managed and supervised the Bridge Group's largest schemes in recent yearsHe has continued to play a leading role in design and assessment of bridges and has successfully acted as project manager for the Engineering Consultancy's venture into design and build projects outside Hampshire, in partnership with Dean and Dyball.To date John has had twenty five of the structures he has designed constructed and has completed many more bridge strengthening and assessments.Specialties: Bridge design and maintenance
