  John Cooper has 45 years of experience as a power plant cooling tower thermal and hydraulic design engineer. He was formally trained in cooling tower design by seasoned German cooling tower engineers at Balcke-Duerr, GmbH while employed as Chief Thermal Engineer for the Zurn Industries, Inc. Cooling Tower Division in Tampa, Florida (from 1976 to 1985). While at Zurn he designed the heat exchange systems, water distribution systems and ice prevention systems for some of the largest natural draft cooling towers in the United States, including the counterflow NDCTs at the Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station Unit 2, Beaver Valley Nuclear Station Unit 1, and Grand Gulf Nuclear Station. He also designed the Ultimate Heat Sink Mechanical Draft Cooling Towers at Entergy's Waterford Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 and ten large circular counterflow multifan cooling towers in U.S. fossil power plants. For the past 30 years, he has provided cooling tower consulting and engineering services to the international power generation industry under the Corporate name, John Cooper & Associates, PA. In this capacity he is a completely independent entity with no affiliation whatsoever with any other company or organization. Since 1991 he has prepared detailed thermal performance upgrade design modification packages for 42 counterflow natural draft cooling towers in U.S. nuclear and fossil power plants.
