My responsibilities include but are not limited to: design, development, documentation, training, and problem solving. Design of tooling and ground support equipment. Development of the process steps to utilize the tooling and ground support equipment. Then compose these steps into work instructions to later become flight approved and used to train personnel. All work instructions were developed to meet engineering specifications and peer reviewed before acceptance. Training utilized the work instructions and the construction of test articles. All test articles subsequently tested to meet engineering specifications. Personnel only pass the test if the test articles meet the specifications. Once a person passes the test, each process has a test, they are certified to perform said operations. Problem solving is a regular occurrence. Problems I deal with are mainly designing new parts with the constraints levied on us by qualifications. Once the processes were qualified for flight anything new that wasn't covered in that qualification becomes more difficult to design. Problem solving is my favorite skill to use. Working on the JWST sunshield is the most exciting project I've worked on in my career. We all remember the great science gained from The Hubble telescope. JWST promises to give us more and I'm proud to be a part. Just think, parts i helped make or made will be in space nearly 1,000,000 miles from Earth looking back in time, maybe the beginning of the first stars and planets. Show less
