About John David Baker

I am a Full Member of CIEEM and a CEcol. I joined BSG Ecology in March 2014 but I have worked as an ecological consultant since 2005 for Keystone Environmental and AMEC E&I UK Ltd (formerly Entec UK Ltd.). I have a strong interest in birds, mammals and herpetology.My project experience includes residential and commercial developments, wind farms, rail and road schemes, new nuclear construction and increasingly I am working on a range of new solar farm proposals, including very large scale schemes. I am experienced in producing technical reports (baseline reports, environmental statements, method statements and ecological management plans).I have undertaken ornithological surveys in a range of habitats across Britain, including breeding bird surveys, vantage point surveys for wind farms, and intertidal surveys for coastal developments. I hold Natural England and Natural Resources Wales survey licences for barn owl.I have extensive experience of carrying out mammal surveys, including dormouse, otter, water vole, badger, bats and red squirrel. I have held European Protected Species (EPS) development licences for dormice and great crested newts. I also currently hold a survey licence for dormouse and great crested newt. I hold a class licence for badger sett closure work and have held and organised several sett closure projects each year for over 6 years.I graduated from the University of Surrey, first in 2003 with a degree in Zoology, and subsequently in 2005 with an MSc in Biodiversity and Conservation. I am a Full member of CIEEM and a Chartered Ecologist. I am a member of the British Ornithologists’ Union and British Trust for Ornithology and regularly contribute to volunteer survey schemes such as the Nest Record Scheme and Breeding Bird Surveys and have contributed to the species account revisions for Bird of Berkshire – 2nd edition (2013). I also enjoy wildlife photography and using trail cameras to film or photograph harder to see species.
