Mr. Gregory was born and raised in Miami, Florida. He was graduated from Loyola University in New Orleans magna cum laude and received his degree in accounting in 1978. Upon graduation, he worked with an international accounting firm until starting law school at Tulane University where he graduated in 1982. Thereafter he joined Welbaum , Zook, Jones and Williams to practice in the area of building construction and suretyship. John was mentor by Earl Welbaum esq., one of the true founding fathers in Florida in this field of practice. John is a member of the Florida Bar, American Arbitration Association, and American Bar Association’s Fidelity and Surety Committee of Tort and Insurance Practice. John is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Dade County Young Lawyers. His practice emphasizes building construction, surety litigation and workouts, general commercial litigation and insurance defense. In the construction industry he represents owners/ developers, contractors, sureties, subcontractors, suppliers, insurers, and designers in a multitude of claims and defenses regarding, liens, bonds, delays, liquidated damages, defective construction, 558 claims,commercial general liability and builders risk claims and defenses. He has negotiated and drafted major development contracts and has tried cases (including multi-week trials) before various state and federal courts within the State of Florida and multi-week arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association along with appellate work. He has also appeared as a guest lecturer locally and nationally on legal issues regarding building construction and surety bonds. In addition, he has represented a number of insurance carriers on property damage claims. John is also the co-author of the Liability of of Performance Bond Sureties presented at the ABA Conference for the Fidelity and Surety division of the ABA in San Francisco and AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest rating.
