Five years’ experience fabricating membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) for proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) with next generation catalysts and ionomers (Pt-alloys, PGM-free catalysts, various equivalent weight PFSAs). Recognized by the Department of Energy for outstanding R&D as part of the 13 million dollar Fuel Cell Consortium for Performance and Durability. Fabricated roll-to-roll, meter-scale, electrospun nanofiber catalyst coated membrane MEAs at pilot-plant in Chattanooga, TN (eSpin Technologies) as part of a start-up company based on a provisional patent which I am co-author. Proven ability to manage and work with teams of engineers to advance multifaceted projects and meet project deadlines.

Developed and carried out a testing method to investigate the effect of asperities on localized strain induced crystallization. Gained proficiency with many analytical and synthetic techniques involving thermoset polymers and performed physical testing. Blending and compounding, rheology, Instron Tensile Testing, High speed cameras, multi-walled microparticle synthesis.

Lead a biomimicry research project whose goal was organic radiovoltaic devices - generating current from ionizing radiation utilizing the biopolymer melanin. Compared pure melanin and melanosomes for both current generation and radiation absorbance. Researched the chemical and electronic properties of melanin as a biomolecule for use in radioprotective applications. Developed method to create synthetic melanosomes (melanin organelles)

Researched developing nanolayered structures within gradient refractive index lenses Explored how these lenses may increase the efficiency of solar cells as well as act as materials to improve dispersion technologies like drug delivery or food storage applications. Assisted in the operation and processing of nanolayer multilayer polymer films while conducting film characterization and prototype fabrication of nanolayered products.

Saved the company $60,000 through a proposal to utilize resources in a more efficient manner.Formulated chemical reactions and optimized desired characteristics in polymer foams.Gained an understanding of the fundamental principles behind foaming materials, catalysts, and governing intermediate reactions.Worked alongside a PhD chemist to develop theoretical formulations and then tested reactions on a small scale to determine if the formula would be viable for scaling up to produce larger quantities of foam.
