Post-Conviction ProjectStudent Attorney, August-December 2011Worked on a client's motion to vacate her conviction under professor's direct supervision. Learned the underlying medical theories. Interviewed the client at prison. Obtained cause of death reports from medical experts. Wrote a portion of the statement of facts and edited the motion. Worked as a member of a team with three other students from Pace Law School and two students from the Wisconsin Innocence Project.

Wrote motion for summary judgment in defense to a personal injury action that the attorneys filed without making changes. Wrote a complaint for a property case. Wrote a memorandum in support of a U-visa that a supervising attorney made a couple changes to and included in the petitioner's application. Helped prepare immigration applications by: doing legal research and writing memos for the attorneys, filling out forms, and gathering information from clients at meetings. Researched personal injury, property, and constitutional law issues and wrote memos for attorneys. Filed documents at the EOIR and at Cook County Courthouse. Participated in client meetings.

Researched and analyzed legal issues concerning international and Filipino law. Drafted letters to American and Filipino lawmakers and government officials advocating for human rights. Met with other organizations and officials to discuss promoting human rights in the Philippines, including Karapatan Secretary-General Marie Hilao-Enriquez. Drafted reports regarding legal news.
