The Association includes firms engaged in device development and manufacture, developers of projects and sites based on Marine Renewables, academic researchers, consultants, professional firms and contractors as well as interested individuals. The Association is an all-island body.

Appointed to the Board in 2007, John has extensive experience of the marine sector in Ireland and globally. He holds a number of industry positions within the Marine Renewable sector in Ireland and has helped to advance the Wave Energy sector in Ireland over the last 10 years. John has obtained extensive experience of strategic corporate financial planning, development, negotiation and leadership across a number of sectors. He has particular expertise in managing projects from inception to delivery and he holds a number of key positions in the marine energy sector. He is a recognised media commentator on the sector with a skill set that includes public relations and strategic communications with key stakeholders in the public and private sector.

The SFI MaREI Centre is a cluster of key university and industrial partners dedicated to solving the main scientific, technological and socio-economic challenges related to marine renewable energy. These challenges will require innovative solutions to reduce time to market and reduce costs to a competitive level. They cover all aspects of the technology development and require solutions to the engineering problems, energy conversion and storage transmission and integration as well as the enabling ICT technologies and environmental aspects. MaREI will deliver significant economic and societal impacts, leveraging from existing internationally recognised groups in Irish universities working in the MRE sector. MaREI will develop an innovation environment that will yield intellectual property and high potential start-up companies, and lead to jobs in the Irish economy through the outputs from the targeted projects with the industry partners.
