Eastern Emergency Relief Network (EERN) collects donated household items and places them in a warehouse in Mitcham. These may be any items needed for a person in difficulties to establish or maintain a home. They include refrigerators, washing machines, beds, table and chairs, couches cupboards and kitchen items. These donated items are inspected (and electrical items tested) and then offered to people in need. This is done through over 100 welfare agencies who bring their clients to the warehouse where they can select items to meet their individual needs.

Escape Motoring Inc is a car club for the drivers of all makes and models of sports car. It offers members the opportunity to enjoy driving their cars on two runs each month. One of these is an early morning run and the other, a lunch or dinner run. With a memebrship between 230 and 250, it provides an opportunity for people to enjoy driving their cars and then stopping for conversation with like minded enthusiasts. Members receive a monthly newsletter with interesting items about cars and related matters. The Club does not have club business meetings.

The Australian Asphalt Pavement Association (AAPA) (now Australian Flexible Pavement Association - AfPA) was formed in 1969 and is the peak industry body representing the flexible pavement industry. Members include all major asphalt and sprayed sealing companies, bitumen suppliers, state road authorities and most of the relevant equipment suppliers and consulting firms.Its primary role is to promote the sustainable use of bituminous surfacing across Australia. It does this by working in areas including the development of technical practices, promoting health, safety and environmental sustainability and offering relevant industry based training courses across Australia. AAPA is governed by a national Board of Directors as well as member branches in each state.As CEO I managed all aspects of the Association, including its staff on behalf of the Board. This included managing AAPA's Regional Offices through Regional Executives in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. The Regional Executives also answer to their respective Branch Committees.

FPAA is a member association representing the fire protection industry. It is also responsible for the outsourced Commonwealth government ozone depleting substances and synthetic greenhouse gases (ODS&SGG) licensing program as it relates to fire protection industry. As Manager of this program I developed and applied requirements for the granting of licences to handle synthetic fire extinguishing agents. I also developed the Code of Practice to meet the requirements of the legislation and the industry.During this period I successfully achieved major change in the industry particularly in the handling of fire extinguishing agents.

The Minerals and Petroleum Division supports and regulates the mining, petroleum production, extraction and exploration industry in Victoria. As the manager of policy I provided high quality advice and information to the Minister, industry and the public on issues relating to minerals and petroleum. I also successfully managed a major review of the Mineral Resources and Development Act.As Manager Science, Technology and Development I managed major technical projects including Victoria’s $4 million contribution to a project relating to coal and greenhouse emissions.During this period I was a member of the Board of two Cooperative Research Centres.

The Natural Resources Council was the peak body providing advice to the SA Government on natural resource issues.Working for the Council I conducted research into a range of economic, environmental and social issues associated with agriculture and natural resources. I also responded to major Government initiatives including proposed industry and research policy, salinity and natural resource economics.

The SA Cabinet Office worked with agencies to provide strategic and policy advice to the Premier and Cabinet. As Director I worked closely and successfully with Ministers, Chief Executives and senior staff to review and provide accurate and timely advice to the Premier and to Cabinet. I also represented the Department in consultation with industry and the community.During this period I was seconded to establish the office of the National Environment Protection Council (NEPC) as it first Executive Director.

The Vehicle Operations Section was responsible for the management of vehicle issues including the development, interpretation and application of vehicle standards. As Supervising Engineer I managed the Department's motor vehicle certification program and the engineering division of the in-service inspection station in Regency Park. I also represented the SA Government on the Australian Motor Vehicle Certification Board developing Australian motor vehicle design rules (ADRs) and in service standards.

In this role I achieved the successful resolution of environmental complaints, applying practical solutions to often complex emotional and technical issues. I also successfully worked with all levels of Government, industry, communities and courts to advise on related aspects of development proposals.Other duties included participation in several Standards Australia Committees and chairing the National Environmental Noise Control Committee (ENCC). ENCC reported to the National Environmental Ministerial Council advising on relevant legislation and policy to achieve harmony between States and the Commonwealth.On a number of occasions I worked with the World Health Organisation (WHO) developing its community noise criteria. I also conducted two successful consultancies for WHO developing environment noise legislation in Malaysia and South Korea.
