John R. Lane has diverse experience in the intellectual property practice both in the U.S. and on an international scale. His practice is concentrated in patent, trademark, copyright and unfair competition litigation before federal trial and appellate courts, including bench and jury trials involving several technologies. His cases and clients range from famous brands, publishers and high-end consumer products to shape memory alloys, polymer chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, computer software systems, high security smart-cards, RFID devices and internet based applications. In addition to litigation, he has extensive experience in supervising the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, licensing, due diligence investigations, and opinion work in patent, trademark, trade secret, and unfair competition law. Mr. Lane has practiced in foreign jurisdictions, particularly before the U.K. Patent Courts, and has experience in supervising cases before several European courts. He has also represented clients in oppositions before the European Patent Office and the Japanese Patent Office. During and after his undergraduate studies, Mr. Lane worked as a mechanical engineer in product design and development for General Motors Corporation with expertise in materials science, polymer chemistry and automotive engineering. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Lane practiced intellectual property law with leading trial advocates before the British Bar in London, England where he qualified as a barrister and is a member of the Middle Temple.
