I am a social anthropologist and writer, with a focus on migration and multiculturalism. Based in Berlin, I’ve spent most of the past decade in Turkey and the Middle East. My current project involves working with Turkish speakers in Berlin to better understand divisions and foster cross-communal dialogue in the city. On top of my academic work, I’ve produced two books aimed at a general readership and write regularly for international news outlets. My latest book, Inside Qatar: Stories From One of the Richest Nations on Earth, was shortlisted for the 2023 Orwell Prize for Political Writing..
