Wespine Industries is jointly owned by Wesfarmers Limited and Fletcher Building Limited. We are a softwood sawmiller, specialising in the production of Pinus radiata, a premium quality plantation timber. Our product range includes dressed, stress graded and preservative treated timber suitable for construction, renovations, landscaping, pallets and packaging, and furniture manufacturing.

Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer, responsible for leading the Manufacturing, Maintenance, Hygiene and Continuous Improvement departments with 6 direct reports and 170 employees.Responsibilities• Delivering the Manufacturing plan to budget.• Executing the Planned and Preventative Maintenance programme.• Achieving the Continuous Improvement initiatives.• Maintaining the high hygiene standards of a Food Manufacturing site.Achievements• 5g giveaway reduction of all 175g SKU’s resulting in savings of $300k/yr by refurbishment of existing equipment resulting in tighter control of product depositing.• 50% reduction of organic waste with annualised savings of $480k. This was achieved through efficient production planning, waste identification and analysis as well as working closely with QA and R&D to reuse pastry.• $175k/yr savings in Material Usage Variance (MUV) by implementing a monitoring system to track and measure all materials.

Reporting to the General Manager Operations, responsible for leading the Manufacturing department with 4 direct reports and 110 employees across 2 production lines 24 hours per day 5 days per week.Responsibilities• Ensure that people and food safety standards are followed.• Adherence to specifications to deliver a quality product to the customer and consumer.• Successful execution of the production plan to ensure service levels are achieved.• Manufacturing costs are as per budget.Achievements• Managed the successful completion of Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and wet commissioning for a new $14m state-of-the-art packaging line.• Full review of the manufacturing team resulting in performance management of key personnel on site as part of an aggressive cultural change program.• Complete wage review of hourly paid employees, resulting in a market competitive rate.• Seen as a senior member of the leadership group by peers.

Reported to the National General Manager. Managed WA and SA manufacturing operations, with eight direct reports and 40 employees across three facilities operating 24/7. Responsibilities• Managed all business operations including Sales, Manufacturing, Customer Service and Distribution, supplied extensive range of polystyrene products.• Controlled budgets and held P&L responsibility for all sites.• Developed, implemented and executed the long-term business strategy foreach state.• Drove adherence to site safety plan. • Implemented new operating model to drive efficiency and reduce cost across manufacturing and distribution.• Managed customer base and pricing structure to replace low-margin business with higher margin and high value customers. Achievements• Maintained a zero LTI rate across all sites.• Turned the loss-making WA business into profit within 18 months by implementing a new operating model that significantly reduced operating costs and enabled tight budgetary control.• Improved customer service through the implementation of a new purchase order process resulting in a more customer-focused system and improved customer satisfaction.

Reported to the Manufacturing Director, managed a large metro manufacturing and distribution facility with seven direct reports and 170 employees. Site produced 107 SKUs across five production lines, delivering 26M units per annum. Responsibilities• Managed all business operations including Safety, Quality, Manufacturing, Distribution, Engineering, Human Resources and Finance.• Held full financial and budgetary control for the Western Australian operation.• Developed, implemented and executed the strategic plan for the site in line with the overall business, financial and sales objectives. Included restructure of senior management team. • Managed the development and implementation of Continuous Improvement and Capital Projects to drive utilisation and productivity, and to improve overall profitability.• Implemented Goodman Fielder CARE program, focused the site team on the Top 3 Site Risks and initiated Hazard/Near Miss reporting.• Led the Site Consultative Committee.Achievements• Reduced SIFR from >60 to 4.25 and achieved an LTI rate of 0.• Improved DIFOT from 95.2% to >99.5%.• Improved gross profit by $1.3m in two years through maintaining disciplined cost control, improving productivity and waste control.

Reported to the Manufacturing Director, project managed the $15m Capital Project to build and install a new Artisan Bakery line in NSW. Responsibilities• Evaluated supplier submissions, selected suppliers and negotiated agreements. • Recruited all personnel required for the operation. • Liaised with key customers to develop new products in the range. • Established KPI targets and operational budgets for the site.Achievements• Completed project on time and within budget with zero safety incidents.• Gained BRC and WQA accreditation of the site.

Reported to the Site Operations Manager, managed 24/7 manufacturing operation with four direct reports. Responsibilities• Established KPI’s & objectives for operations staff in line with the Site Plan.• Managed the implementation of Continuous Improvement and Capital Projects to drive utilisation and productivity.• Worked with Production Planner to ensure forecasted volumes could be executed.• Developed and implemented the employee on-boarding and training program.• Implemented an additional manufacturing team to meet increased sales volume, including recruitment and training programs.Achievements• Reduced waste from 12% to 6%, resulted in annual savings of $312k.• Initiated and completed the casual conversion program which resulted in savings on direct labour costs of 18% and increased engagement within the team.
