More than 50 years of experience in international public and private law, banking and finance, good governance and strategy. Provided legal and strategic advice to senior government and other officials to resolve complex problems and compliance issues; undertaken senior management and Board level roles, strategic policy formulation and new business development; established and managed new financial enterprises; developed and implemented innovative financing instruments; and led and advised on a wide range of international transactional and regulatory work including acquisitions, fund formation, and public and private equity and debt deals in cross border environments, often involving emerging markets. Experience gained mainly in Australia, Asia, the United States and the United Kingdom. In summary:• Progressively senior positions in public IFIs, including the Asian Development Bank in the 1970s and the World Bank in the 1980s, that led to appointment as the Deputy General Counsel, and then General Counsel, of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in the 1990s;• Attorney in a predecessor firm of King & Wood Mallesons, Sydney (1970s) and in Cleary Gottlieb, Steen and Hamilton, Washington D.C. (1980s);• Head of International Finance of Banque Paribas Capital Markets, London (1980s); and• From late 1990s to 2014, successively, Managing Director and General Counsel of Emerging Markets Partnership (Europe), a very successful private equity infrastructure firm ; General Counsel of INVESCO UK, responsible for worldwide legal and compliance functions outside North America; and International Director of a major English law firm (now BCLP), developing and driving forward its award-winning, global international strategy and new business opportunities;• Since 2015, international advisor to, and currently Professor of International Finance and Trade Law at, Europe’s largest post-graduate law school: see https://www.qmul.ac.uk/ccls/;• Co-founder and Director of the Centre for Applied Sustainable Transition Law (CASTL): see www.theCASTL.com; • Strategic Partnerships Advisor to FQX AG: see https://www.obligate.com.Some Memberships• Advisory Board Member of the Queen Mary-UNIDROIT ITCL (see https://www.qmul.ac.uk/ccls/research/qmul-unidroit-itcl/;• Active Hon.
