John Thames has over 35 years of power experience in design, management and execution of engineering for domestic and international power projects. These projects include: pulverized coal and circulating fluidized bed combustion projects, simple cycle and combined cycle combustion turbines projects, nuclear power projects, diesel generator projects and hydroelectric projects. Fuels experience includes coal, waste coal, lignite, biomass, fuel oil, natural gas, syngas and blast furnace gas. He has experience in all phases of project development from proposals and front-end engineering to full EPCC. He has managed engineering teams of over 100 engineers and projects ranging from 30 MWe firing blast furnace gas to over 1600 MWe firing lignite in supercritical boilers. Project locations include North America, Europe, Africa and Asia. He has recently completed a four year assignment in Fluor’s Farnborough office in the United Kingdom where he was Director of Engineering for International Operations for Power, responsible for all phases of engineering for international power projects. His background is as a process and mechanical engineer, experienced in plant conceptualization, proposal development, heat and mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment specification, and plant performance testing. He is a graduate of Clemson University in mechanical engineering and is currently registered as a professional engineer in North Carolina.
