Data 911 is a small, family-owned company that manufactures and sells mobile computing and digital video solutions for police, fire, and public safety personnel. I am part of a close-knit team that is responsible for designing, prototyping, and producing these products. I started working as a contract employee, and I have accepted a full-time position with Data 911. This has given me an opportunity to use my skills, knowledge and talent to grow the company.

This product's success is due to individual control of 12 High Voltage power supplies that separate biologic material on pH gradient strips. This innovative product is unique in this respect, as none of its competitors have this feature. In this role, I also worked closely with the Mechanical Lead Engineer to provide the HV isolation between lanes for the 10KV maximum voltage. This product also includes temperature control of the separation tray. Electrical design engineer for "Micro-Rotofor" - a desktop unit that provides temperature control for a reaction chamber that pre-separates analytes by their pH for subsequent separations. Electrical design/firmware for Experion priming station. This product uses a microprocessor to pump gel into channels at three different pressure levels on a temperature-controlled basis to correct for viscosity changes. Profinia front panel electronics design. QVGA with touchscreen provides the operator interface environment for this product. Project Manager for Universal Power Supply 2001-2003. Electronic design of 500W, 500V, 2.5A power supply for use in gel electrophoresis. Worked with Ed Bloom as a consultant on the main converter design. This design passed EMC with no shielding in a plastic case. Provide support to manufacturing to deal with obsolescence of parts and other production problems.Clinical Division - Responsible for electronics design and software for a Blood Spot Puncher based on the 68HC11 microprocessor. Constructed prototype PCBs, wrote firmware, integrated the system, performed validation tests, documented electronics and software, wrote alignment and test software, and introduced the system to production.

Responsible for electronics design and software for a Blood Spot Puncher based on the 68HC11 microprocessor. Responsible for helping to bring an automated immuno-assay instrument into production. Investigated and solved numerous problems relating to instrument operations. Also responsible for obtaining regulatory agency approvals for this instrument. Assisted in writing and implementing SOPs ininvolved in achieving ISO 9001 certification for this facility. Wrote a service manual for use by field support personnel.

Life Sciences Division - Responsible for electronics, firmware, and integration of an automated capillary electrophoresis system based on the 68HC11 and the Z180. Designed three PCBs to operate the system, and wrote firmware to operate the real-time functions of the system. Participated in developing and implementing communications protocols for system communications with the host PC. System functions include motion control, thermal control, and robust systems communications.

Responsible for all printer products supported on Qantel systems. This includes evaluating candidate units, generating controller firmware, integrating operating systems/controller/printer subsystems, documenting release packages, and maintaining existing printer products. Also participated in the design of a low-cost matrix printer including writing microprocessor firmware, stepper motor control, and hardware design.

Participated in the design of several microprocessor-controlled projects including an inspection station for the silicon processing industry, a high-speed currency sorter, and a security system for nuclear power plants.
