Drafted legislation on China’s nuclear proliferation, environmental policy in the Philippines, and corporate responsibility of U.S. businesses abroad.

Foreign Service Office for 14 years; served overseas in Venezuela, Brazil, and Burma and in Washington in the East Asia bureau and the Human Rights bureau. In Human Rights Bureau (DRL) was responsible for liaison with international human rights NGOs on a whole range of human rights issues. As political officer in Brazil, reported on national and regional politics and human rights issues. In Burma, served as primary reporting officer and liaison with NLD leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. Served in the State Department Operations Center in 1991 during the first Gulf War and participated in the interagency process at the highest levels. In East Asia bureau, served as desk officer for Vietnam during the first steps toward normalization, and desk officer for the Philippines dealing with issues arising from the U.S. departure from our naval and air bases.
