I carried out research on experimental bainitic steels. The research involved experimental design, application of metallographic techniques, failure analysis, technical report writing, and presentations. This culminated in the defence of a master’s thesis entitled Low Temperature Cleavage Fracture of Microalloyed Bainitic Plate Steels.* I was the co-author of Microstructural Effects on Brittle Fracture of High Strength Plate Steel that was presented at the 12th International Conference on Fracture (Ottawa, July 2009). The results of this original research project were deemed to be significant as well as important to the field of materials science and engineering by a group of world renowned scholars* I prepared a poster presentation, Low Temperature Cleavage Fracture of Microalloyed Bainitic Plate Steels, which was presented at the Canadian Materials Science Conference (Queen’s University, June 2009)

In a newly created position that reported directly to the President of the Shoring and Forming division, the largest branch at Aluma Systems, Inc., I pioneered the creation and development of tools for measuring quality and performance, both quantitatively and qualitatively.* Managed testing of shoring and forming products that included evaluating, analysing, and communicating the final solution to engineering, branch, and site personnel in an efficient manner; over 40 per cent of defective or unreliable equipment were successfully removed* Developed, validated, and implemented maintenance procedures, and facilitated training and coordination of maintenance programs to reflect current quality processes; over 80 per cent of branches increased revenue, service and product quality and reduced safety incidents* Developed maintenance and inspection processes specific to each branch; over 95 per cent were successfully implemented* Reviewed and further developed the internal auditing system; over 65 per cent of the original auditing process was completely revised and fully implemented to make it more rigorous, leading to the identification and removal of defective equipment* Coordinated implementation of quality procedures, quality management tools, supplier evaluation at various branches; all (100 per cent) of branches utilized established quality procedures resulting in an immediate drop of safety incidents by at least 40 per cent over two years

I was promoted from Quality Specialist to Maintenance and Quality Specialist after six months of working while reporting to the Corporate Quality Manager due to the value and quality of my work.* Researched and created maintenance, inspection, and safety instructions of electric chain hoists, after visiting job sites, communicating with service vendors, branches in Canada and the U.S.A., and reporting the problems and solutions; the outcome produced two, 500-page volumes – a pioneering effort praised by the General Counsel and Risk Manager, that reduced safety incidents by 20 per cent in the first 6 months following implementation at all branches* Educated company personnel on issues and concerns related to supplier evaluation and approval, product testing, and other quality-related matters for scaffolding, shoring, and forming equipment; over 70 per cent of personnel were trained before promotion
