About John Geraghty

Dr Geraghty joined the School of Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering at Dublin City University on the 6th of January 2003 as a lecturer in Manufacturing Systems Engineering. Dr Geraghty was the chairperson of the BEng (Hons) and MEng Degree Progammes in Mechanical & Manufacturing Engineering (September 2007 - September 2012), a member of DCU's Academic Council (2007-2012) and was the school's Academic Framework for Innovation (AFI) Fellow (2007-2010). Additionally he is an external examiner for the Certificate Progamme in Advanced Mechanical Engineering at Athlone Institute of Technology, Ireland.Dr. Geraghty undertook his Masters (by Research) and PhD theses at the Enterprise Research Centre, University of Limerick, Ireland under the supervision of Dr. Cathal Heavey. For his Masters thesis he carried out research into the application of order release mechanisms, such as CONWIP, Starvation Avoidance and Drum-Buffer-Rope to batch production flow-shop environments. For his PhD thesis he conducted research into the comparative performances of several production control strategies, such as Kanban, CONWIP, Hybrid Kanban-CONWIP etc, for parallel/serial transfer lines in the presence of uncertainty in customer demand.Specialties: Discrete Event Simulation modelling of complex manufacturing systems and supply networks. Combinatorial optimisation - Simulated Annealling, Genetic Algorithms, Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis.
