As a Principal Test Engineer II at WMS, I was responsible for everything from leading projects, delegating responsibilities of major projects, to running test cases. I was also responsible for creating estimations of how long it would take to test a game, how many resources we would need, and so forth. This would turn out eventually being the iterative Test Plan after meetings I scheduled with Game Development were held and we eventually would decide what was best for the project and the people involved. I was also responsible for process improvements in Product Assurance as well as making sure they were carried out in a timely fashion. I was part of a team of a select few individuals from Product Assurance that worked on issues from communication to better test practices. I was able to use my coding background in Linux scripting, Perl, and C++ to do everything from reviewing game code to developing tools that make testing more efficient and effective. In one day I work with people from at least three to five different departments. For example, Systems Engineering (to log any new requirements that have been introduced both internally and externally; Jurisdictional Engineering to work with the approval labs to make sure our product goes through as smoothly as possible as well as helping to reproduce any issues they may have found; Game Development- I always try to maintain the best possible relationships with the development teams since they ultimately can make your job very easy or very difficult. I am also responsible for setting up meeting schedules and leading scrums so that we can maintain productive communication with Game Development.

As a Principal, I was expected to be a leader in PA and to not only to carry out all of my responsibilities from an Associate Test Engineer - Senior, but also to lead by example. I also started not only training people in certain aspects of the job (as I had as a Test Engineer), but to mentor new employees and make sure that they were following the Test Case work Instruction which was basically our project layout and guidebook. Even though I had led several projects as a Test Engineer, at this point I started to lead projects which required more that one tester.

My responsibilities of a senior test Engineer included everything below, but I became a subject matter expert on many facets of product assurance. For example, I was responsible for integrating automation testing into my test group as well as training them to use it and showing how they could benefit from it. We also made a change to iterative testing at this time so I became responsible for iterative schedules and making sure we had enough resources (both tools and bodies) available to complete the project by the requested time.

My responsibilities as a Test Engineer at WMS gaming included Training new hires, writing Test Plans and Test Completion Reports, weekly to daily reporting on the status of a project (depending on project health), Writing, Reviewing, and Executing both game and OS test cases, working with many different groups (PMO, Systems Engineering, Game Development, Jurisdictional Engineering, etc.) not only to gather requirements for the particular project I was working on but to also make sure that there was constant communication between all of the groups to insure that everyone was on the same page. I was also responsible for reporting any defects found while testing and making sure that these were not only fixed but did not cause any breakage. Other responsibilities included regression testing, verifying design document accuracy, as well as developing and improving upon testing scripts used written in both Linux and Perl to continue to keep up with whatever changes were made to standards that would affect configuration files or other parts of the code.

As an Associate Test Engineer I was responsible for Testing Software for Slot Machines as well as running math emulations to verify that the game's math was correct. During this phase of my career I learned a great deal and was able to capitolize on my already developed communication skills which is key in order to make sure that a project is delivered to the aproval labs successfully.

I started at WMS as a contractor in 2005 and was quickly promoted to a Associate Test Engineer position. I was eventually promoted to a Test Engineer, Senior Test Engineer, Principal Test Engineer I. In August of 2012 I was promoted to Principal Test Engineer II.
