Parallelized the Access Plan component of DB2 as part of the development of DB2 Parallel Edition.Invented and patented a new DB2 universal database compiler algorithm for performing certain kinds of database queries. The algorithm yielded a 19% improvement in one query in an industry-standard benchmark.Patented two further inventions which improved DB2 universal database operation and serviceability.Developed a tool for measuring and analysing network performance and packaged it for customer use. In some cases, this allowed customers to double network throughput with no additional hardware.Balanced Warehouse Systems 2004 - present. Design of System based on IBM p-series and DS8100 disk subsystem with db2 database. Performance Test of all P-series Balanced Warehouses and the IBM Smart Analytic System. testing of high-speed network configurations using 10-gigabit componentry. Co-Authored White Paper on configuring port aggregation for optimal network performance. Wrote Paper on Tuning AIX for good db2 database performance. developed and ran tools to measure disk performance and network performance, for AIX and linux environments.

TPC benchmarking 1998 - 2006. designed and ran audited TPC-H benchmarks on IBM p-series with db2 database at scalefactors ranging from 300GB to 10TB, achieving leading positions in TPC- rankings.. developed and implemented product performance improvements in the areas of Optimizer, relational interpreter, inter-node network communications, and locking, which were used in benchmarks and incorporated into the db2 product for customer use.

* Architecture and Development of db2 for unix and windows . worked with IBM researchers on taking a Shared-Nothing Parallel database prototype from feasibility to IBM product, including architecture and development of Access Plan Management and Locking Protocols.. developed and implemented prototype for a method of spilling backed-up network queues to temporary scratch memory and disk to improve performance and overcome certain kinds of deadlock.. developed methods for making Optimizer access plans more robust.. developed method for simulating customer query plan environments based on an extract of catalogue meta-data

Technical Sales Support (pre and post sales) for DB2/MVS and DB2/OS/390, to support customers running large DB2 databases on IBM mainframe computers. This included application design review, capacity planning and performance analysis, application tuning for performance, operations, first-level software support, and customer training both on-site and at IBM locations. * Conducted approximately 40 customer engagements over a 3 year period, including approximately 8 major reviews as well as the development and running of 3 new courses.
