I've worked in a lot of different roles in the computer business: technical writing (including software development systems, CAD systems [both computer-aided design and computer-aided dispatch--as in public safety], customized systems, and library automation), tech support/training (everything I documented plus electronic work instruction systems for low-volume/high-mix manufacturing), and software development (various roles from junior engineer to technical architect). In the past few years, I've done extensive work with data migration and am now working with Pentaho's ETL and reporting tools.I also was heavily involved in the late (and undeservedly unlamented) publication The Journal of Pascal, Ada, and Modula-2. When it was an independent publication, I was the editor; when it was sold to Wiley, I was involved as a contributing editor.I currently work both at my day job with Henry Schein One (formerly Henry Schein Professional Services) and, very much in my spare time, as an independent consultant through Alpha-G Consulting mostly providing services and software for library automation (that's libraries as in books; not software modules). I enjoy working as a consultant; librarians are great clients. We've done a fair amount of work with the Evergreen open-source library automation system.
