Profile bio

About John Williamson

Originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan, my personal mandate is to change the way people interact with technology in the Bay Area, and the world. At any company I helm or support, our mission is to democratize technology consulting costs and to innovate where others choose to simply profit.Starting out my first IT consulting company in a small house in 2006, I've now worked in almost every layer of the IT industry spanning multiple careers over 17+ years. While my roots are with high-end residential support in terms of smart homes and technical renovations, I also have a deep knowledge of business IT, sales, and technical infrastructure. Currently, I primarily support the SMB sector, providing consultations across a wide-range of industries at my personal consulting company and partner organizations. At my personal firm TechInSF, we have expanded far past our original scope to offer one of the most comprehensive support teams available on the west coast, utilizing traditional IT teams with additional members from security, low-voltage contracting, full stack development, and audio/visual systems. In my management style, I strive to have a vendor-neutral approach with trained technicians unrivaled in the industry. I stay on top of new technologies and as such have experience at the bleeding edge of tech in subjects like blockchain, AI, virtual reality, and InfoSec solutions. I do this with outstanding research acumen and a dedicated approach towards paying attention to what's next. We take it a step further though, offering community outreach, dedicated pro-bono hours to small business, and more to show we are committed to servicing San Francisco as real engines of positive change. Aside from my work in technical consulting, I like to offer mentorship and training classes for individuals interested in IT careers. I offer foundational skills training, business skills training, sponsorship, and many more opportunities for strong professionals who would like to get involved in the fields of technical consulting, IT administration, and cable wiring. The IT world is rife with people at the top who don't understand field work, and people at the bottom who lack communication skills necessary to succeed. For those who work with me, it's easy to see the difference I bring to the table, and the support I bring to teams I lead. We are changing things, and we always love to meet people who are rising to that challenge.

Listed skills include Technical Support, Software Installation, Troubleshooting, Hardware, and 20 others.

We have a unique hybrid workforce who all specialize in various technical subjects, keeping our operations low and our pricing extremely competitive. Since our early inception, we've serviced over a thousand clients in the SMB/Residential markets, and have expanded our consultant team substantially in 2023.We are steadily growing and expanding into other consulting areas like web design/solar and have recently been called one of the hottest new tech companies in the Bay Area. Jan 2008 - Present

Systems Support Specialist

Kalamazoo, Mi

I served as the sole contact for level 1-2 support in a packaging/logistics/integration company. My immediate supervisor handled level 3-4, but at times we traded off, as I was seen as his extension. I provided hardware/software maintenance at the small-corporate level as well as maintained servers in a thin-client environment. I also maintained security, as well as backup monitoring. Aside from that I did report writing, inventory management, and imaging, supporting between 50-100 machines. We worked in XP, Vista, 7, and then 8/8.1 with our deployment of a Microsoft Surface 3 inventory to our sales department. I worked with RF guns, Zebra label printers, iPods (for shipping signatures), and projectors as well. Notable developments here was our acquisition by HP Products, a Ferguson Enterprise in December 2014. I, as well my supervisor worked hand in hand with HP support staff to transition the company into their networks, procedures, and business systems (AX, Targit, Report Manager, Web, Web Portal, Sales Apex, Atlas, Scale, Order Writer). The last few months of my employment I served as level 1-2 support, and had my hands less in the level 3-4, as we were now a part of a much larger support network, with multiple help desks spanning multiple locations. I spent most of my time phasing out servers, old email systems, and their proprietary sales systems (inForm). I acted as a middle man between HP support staff and our end users during the transition on many occasion.

Dec 2013 - Apr 2015

It Network Administative Technician

Faunce Building, Wmu Campus

Maintained faculty networks and hardware maintenance to the branches of WMU's Student Affairs departments. The users were exclusively university faculty, including the Dean of Students, and other figures of authority within the college. Duties include standard help desk troubleshooting (levels 1-2) using Spiceworks, database/data entry (SQL, Access), inventory management, hardware/software installations (XP, 7), and network administration across approx 200-300 machines ranging between Macintosh and PC operating systems. Also worked with media hardware, video/image production software/hardware, network infrastructure, and some minor software development. Got my feet wet with SCCM in the months before I left.
