I was accepted into Missouri Task Force One in Jan. of 2013. I am a volunteer HazMat Specialist and completed recruit school in May of 2013. In addition to applying my coursework and skills in HazMat, I serve as a rescuer for urban search and rescue operations following disasters. In September of 2013 I was deployed to Colorado for a week to assist with flood search and rescue operations. Our team coordinated with local and regional agencies to prepare and deploy emergency services. I assisted with evacuations of citizens in rural areas and mapping and recording areas that we had searched. We supported local resources by adapting missions to meet policies and jurisdiction requirements. I attend quarterly training sessions with my unit to stay current on emergency procedures and policies.

I volunteer with the water rescue team as a rescue diver, swimmer, and watercraft operator. We perform surface and underwater rescue operations. We engage in monthly training that covers a wide range of subjects, including water craft operations, surface rescue skills, underwater rescue skills, and ice rescue. I instruct training sessions, including ground tender training, hydraulics, and underwater search pattern training.

I served as a firefighter, driver, and crew chief. I worked with automobile accidents, grass fires, and structural fires, and our department took all vehicle extrication calls in the Eastern District of the county. I had the opportunity to work with personnel from all over the county, and also engaged in monthly training sessions.
