About Johnny Cole

I am a Professional Services Consultant at Salesloft, formerly Drift.I am a graduate of the University of Rochester with a BA in Economics and International Relations, with specializations in Mandarin Chinese and Gender Studies. Before my pivot to tech, I gained experience at a foreign policy think tank and a nonprofit domestic violence center. I was awarded a Take Five Scholarship at the University of Rochester for a tuition-free year of study in gender, society, and public policy. During this year I concurrently interned at the Willow Domestic Violence Center and transitioned to a part-time paid role during the COVID-19 outbreak from March 2020-July 2020 as an essential worker in the residential shelter. My undergraduate focus was the economics and international affairs of the Asia-Pacific region and China. Particularly government policy, women's empowerment, equitable access to education and economic opportunities for women and girls, and the humanitarian and global security implications of China's contention of U.S. hegemony. I am an advanced speaker of Mandarin Chinese and spent 7 months of 2018 in China traveling and studying as part of a US State Department Critical Language Scholarship and the IES Abroad Shanghai Economy, Business & Society program.

Listed skills include Leadership, Communication, Lifeguarding, Microsoft Excel, and 35 others.

Our purpose is to make the world a safer place through men’s work by teaching men and boys to embody healthy masculinity, fully process emotions, embrace authenticity, and show up as compassionate, empathetic community leaders. FOUNDING STORYHey Brother Co. was founded because of the turbulent state of men, boys, and masculinity in our modern world. Living in a patriarchal society has created the myth of the self-made man: stoic, self-sufficient, individualistic, all-knowing, physically dominant. However, no man fits that unattainable mold. It’s a harmful narrative that leads to high rates of depression and suicide for men around the globe. There is a lack of strong communities of men who can express vulnerability. Authentic vulnerability is asking for guidance, support, giving and receiving affirmation, and challenging one another to be better. Global society socializes young boys to suppress their emotions and natural bodily responses to the world, such as crying, which is an essential part of the human experience. This results in generations of men who feel isolated and unloved, are starved for interpersonal connection, lack the ability to regulate their emotions, and don’t know what to do about it. Hey Brother Co. is here to help. We are a company of men who understand that the way out is in, brotherhood is the medicine, and that you need a strong community of brothers to support your growth and healing. We are here to provide a space, both virtual and physical, for men to learn, heal, grow, and hold one another accountable to becoming the best men we can be. The goal is to create a movement where empowered, healthy men can show up as better partners, fathers, sons, community-members, and leaders.
