John Devitt serves as Division Chief of the Remote Sensing Groups for the Electro-Optical Sciences Lab at GTRI. In this position, he oversees about 50 people in the RSG branch organizations including the LIDAR, Intelligent Sensor and Imaging Systems, Environmental Sensors, and Multispectral Image Modeling organizations. John also serves as Chairman of the MSS Passive Sensors Committee, is a member of the SPIE Infrared Technology Committee, and has an appointment to the National Academy of Sciences Research Council. Mr. Devitt has 16 US and International Patents, over 50 publications, and a Masters Degree in Physics.

Manager of engineering group including senior EO analyst’s through lab technicians. Responsible for meeting engineering department group objectives for system level electro-optical analysis and testing. Help assure divisional sales, profits, and awards targets are met. Participate in business strategic planning and technology road maps including new product plans. Manpower loading and personnel decisions. Develop and maintain procedures, standards etc regarding group activities and approach to business (CMMI). Responsible for capitol, overhead, and other budgets for the group. Lead advance technology projects including multi-sensor platforms, and projects for large format Infrared Cameras and related remote sensing technology. Business development activities in both support and lead role for advanced technology opportunities and initiatives. Many technical contributions to IR camera technology and advanced EO systems including multiple patents. Helped developed externally funded R&D project stream, contributing significantly to division sales and positioning L3 in emerging technology areas.

Manage large multi-disciplinary projects with broad technical and economic scope – primary emphasis on advanced sensors and remote sensing.. Program financial responsibility including managing spending and indirect costs across multiple organizational boundaries. Maintain budgetary and technical tracking sheets and insure resource allocation meets critical project schedule milestones. Prepare and present large-scale proposals to government and other potential funding sources. Wins include DOE Smart Power Turbine ($5M) utilizing advanced sensor technologies, and RAM ($15M) programs. Communicate relationship between GE technological capabilities and customer cost driven CTQ’s to internal and external customers to enable positive funding decisions. Business Development activities on targeted acquisitions ($300M).
