About John Macfarlane
A multi-disciplined digital professional, and technical director type person. I've been working agency side for the internet 25 years now. During this time I've amassed a huge amount of very specific and incredibly useful knowledge about digital design & development. I've also picked up a large amount of general but still incredibly useful knowledge about application development, integration, eCommerce, and infrastructure. At the same time, a lot of niche knowledge of stuff I never really wanted to know has gravitated toward me and got stuck in my orbit.On a good day, I've smarts to spare on web applications, CMS, solutions design & development, systems integration, technical architecture, technical specification, digital strategy, Agile, DevOps, SysOps, Azure, and related infrastructures. I can talk both client and dev so form a sturdy bridge between the two and, as it turns out, I'm pretty good at running dev teams too.For the past 12 years or so I've been heavily involved in "design-delivering" solutions and platforms with Umbraco CMS at the core. And this, alongside the .NET technology stack, remains my focus.I’m an exercise addict and keen runner, having run countless half marathons and the Berlin Marathon once, in 2014, an achievement I still dine out on when I can. I own an old VW T3 which is a labour of love but I enjoy nothing more than tootling about, discovering new places to stay, and holding up traffic with my better half on some of the nicest roads in Scotland. I love music, listening and creating, and play guitar badly in 2 very different bands. I’m also a certified beer snob & vinyl wanker.
