Working in the Civil Service as a Senior Gas Engineer and an investigator of gas related incidents at the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), I have more than two decades of experience in the gas industry. I have held various engineering, managerial, technical compliance, and health and safety roles. In my current position, I regularly provide expert opinion and technical/regulatory advice to government departments, local authorities, and other stakeholders. The main specialist aspect of my role however, is investigating significant gas-related incidents, including gas explosions and carbon monoxide fatalities across the country. I produce detailed incident reports to present my findings which are used as critical evidence in subsequent proceedings. My reports have also led to me being called as an expert witness in court hearings.Since early 2022, I have presided as chair of the Hydrogen Heating Programme, HSE (domestic use) Evidence Review Group. This role has provided an invaluable insight into the potential impact of hydrogen in the gas network as well as downstream use and the impact on domestic appliances.I am a member of the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM), a registered gas engineer and I hold recognised gas industry incident investigation certifications. I’m qualified to work on a wide range of domestic and commercial gas appliances and associated pipework, as well as LPG, oil, and solid fuel installations.Throughout my career I have prioritised continuous personal development which has enabled me to acquire numerous managerial, assessing, coaching, and health and safety qualifications as well as a vast array of ACS gas accreditations.
