Jon Pullen is a Chartered Chemist, Chartered Scientist, a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, a Fellow of the Institute of Air Quality Management (IAQM) and a Member of the Institution of Environmental Sciences. Jon’s PhD centred on the effects of acid air pollutants on concretes and he has more than 35 years post-graduate experience in environmental assessment and monitoring. Jon was author of the IEMA Handbook chapter on environmental monitoring and sat for several years on the committee of the IAQM. Jon is a co-author of the IAQM best practice guidance publications on: odour impact assessments for planning; construction dust assessments; minerals dust impact assessment; and the Institute`s Position Statement on air quality mitigation. He has worked closely with the Environment Agency (EA), having written many of its Technical Guidance Notes on source and ambient air quality monitoring around industrial sites and waste management facilities, developed their Operator Monitoring and Assessment (OMA) audit scheme for air, and sat on their steering group that developed the MCERTS qualification for emissions monitoring for industrial compliance. Jon managed three EA research projects on odour, published as EA Science Reports. Whilst on secondment at Defra, Jon drafted the Code of Practice on Odour Nuisance from Sewage Treatment Works. He has given Expert Witness evidence at Inquiry for air quality and odour impacts.
