Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Manage the design, build, programming and commissioning of automated control systems. Responsible for electrical systems engineering as well as programming responsibilities. Coordinated production assembly for electrical and programming. Interface with customer requirements balancing project budget and customer satisfaction. Worked with packaging, lasers (cutting, welding, soldering, and marking), assembly, testing (mechanical and electrical) equipment in a variety of industries and customers including; medical, defense, automotive, safety, and consumer goods. Specialized in integration of equipment for unique applications within the custom systems. Equipment including PLC’s, PC’s, HMI’s, robotics, electrical test, vision inspection, leak test, and dimensional gauging. Implemented and maintained company-wide ERP system writing custom scripts and reports tailoring the system to fit company’s specific integration goals.

Supported manufacturing environment with capital improvement projects. Lead several teams throughout complete phases of capital improvements (from cost justification, permits, procurement, through installation and training). Supervised a team of advanced maintenance technicians supporting a 24/7 facility. Utilized LEAN initiatives with the maintenance team to continually improve equipment performance. Implemented project improvements reducing equipment downtime and increasing productivity. Performed high level troubleshooting on automated manufacturing equipment (packaged and custom) remotely and locally. Implemented and maintained CMMS for tracking production equipment and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). Developed and performed training classes for operators, technicians, and engineers in production and equipment support. Using CAD, developed production tooling for component insertion that reduced product failures and increased tool life. Equipment included solderwaves, automated test handling, robotic dispensers, plastic heatstake, and component insertion.

Engineered all aspects of process controls, from conception, design, installation through startup and training. Duties included cost estimating and quote preparation, equipment specification and procurement, labor supervision, project management, PLC Programming, and equipment integration. Following customer specifications developed process applications in numerous industries including food, wastewater, refrigeration, and custom automation. Based on customer expectations used various PLC and HMI platforms. Documented control structure and electrical wiring using AutoCAD. Trained plant personnel on usage and system troubleshooting. Worked with a team of engineers in developing optimum injection of oxygenated water for wastewater treatment. Assisted in the design and creation of documentation for fluid control components. Developed the CAD standards for control panel layouts. Ensured panel construction met NFPA 79 standards.
