Profile bio

About Jonas Schaab

I am a materials engineer and chemist, who designs and develops new molecules and device architectures for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). I am currently a Scientist at the University of Southern California (USC), where I also pursuing my PhD in Inorganic Chemistry under the guidance of Professor Mark E. Thompson. I am also managing the X-ray diffractometer at USC. My research focuses on discovering and predicting organometallic emitters to extend the operational lifetimes of blue OLEDs. I have fabricated and evaluated OLED devices using state-of-the-art vacuum thermal evaporators and solution processing methods and achieved record-breaking radiative lifetimes as short as 250 ns for a new class of TADF emitters. I have also contributed to a $1.5M DoE grant for the development of white OLEDs in collaboration with the University of Michigan. Additionally, I have 9+ years of experience in small molecule synthesis and characterization, and I am proficient in various analytical techniques, such as NMR, optical spectroscopy, spectrometry, and X-ray diffraction. I have published my findings in high-impact journals, such as the Journal of American Chemical Society and Angewandte Chemie, and filed two US patents for OLED materials. I am adaptable, showcased by my seamless transition from inorganic chemistry to OLED materials engineering, and achieving high-impact results and publications in just under 1.5 years, showcasing a rapid assimilation of new fields and environments.I have a strong academic background in chemistry, with a B.Sc. and a M.Sc. from Ludwig-Maximilians University Munich (Germany). I managed and coordinated an adventure company branch and its guides for 2.5 years. I am fluent in English and German.
