Technical:• Principal investigator for the AFRL OPERA program investigating advanced physics-based radar and ladar features for automatic target recognition (ATR). Coordinating the efforts of two university teams and other industry partners.• Principal investigator for the AFRL CASE program investigating approaches to drive down the sustainment costs for air-to-ground radar-based ATR through the development of novel modeling techniques and advanced physics-based multi-feature fusion approaches.• Principal investigator for the AFRL PRIDE program creating bistatic SAR ATR technologies.• Providing senior technical guidance for a ladar-based combat ID capability development program.• Served as the local technical lead for an EW research, development, and test effort. • Led an effort to understand, review and critique the signal processing chain for a complex ladar sensor system being developed for DARPA. Developed a series of seminars to educate the Government customer on the details of the processing chain. Prepared for and participated in flight testing of the sensor.Leadership and Business Development:• Acting as principal investigator leading small technical teams solving complex research and development challenges. Technical:• Received special recognition by NASA for developing algorithms to automatically detect and characterize debris liberated from the Space Shuttle during ascent using data from multiple radars. Included as co-inventor on a Government patent application (pending).• Supported several DoD customers by developing successful solutions to their radar signal and signature processing, analysis, feature extraction and exploitation challenges. • Served as principle investigator for several research study efforts in support of the AFRL National Signature Center dealing with topics including ATR feature and performance analysis, similarity science and signature validation processes, clutter characterization, and measured data analysis and processing. • Developed numerous successful signal and image processing algorithms for target detection, segmentation and feature extraction based upon a variety of statistical, phenomenological, and model-based methods.• Developed radar phenomenology models in support of a SAR image simulation code, including foliage scattering and other clutter modeling. Leadership and Business Development:• Principal investigator for several efforts. • Conducted research on acoustic imaging through the lower atmosphere using interferometric processes. • Designed, planned and conducted a series of data gathering field experiments. • Determined the effects of atmospheric turbulence on system performance and developed an advanced algorithm to restore images distorted by turbulence.• Taught a senior design laboratory course for two semesters, providing technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance to students

• Designed, executed, and then analyzed data from a large-scale multi-nation acoustic propagation experiment. • Developed a real-time algorithm for the detection of blast noise in the presence of wind noise for military noise monitoring equipment and implemented the algorithms on a TI DSP.
