VMWare Cloud on Amazon Web Services: Team lead for the State of Ohio to move a portion of the datacenter workload to VMWare Cloud on Amazon Web Services (VMC on AWS). The goal is to migrate around 2000 Virtual Machines to VMC on AWS to keep pace with the changing landscape of our private datacenter within the next calendar year. Working across team boundaries including networking, storage, backup and server to plan for and test how this implementation will impact all facets of the datacenter. Public vs. Private Cloud Workload placement: In conjunction with Agency customers, evaluate incoming projects to best determine its placement based on business requirements and public vs private cloud capabilities.

Enterprise Virtualization: Responsible for maintenance and troubleshooting of virtual machine infrastructure and software. Monitor and maintain VMware vSphere 6.5 and Cisco UCS blade infrastructure in the datacenter. Maintain and expand enterprise automation for the datacenter and cloud initiatives. Lead engineer tasked with vCenter & Host upgrades utilizing auto-deploy and host profiles in an environment with 6 production vCenters across 3 sites and almost 300 hosts. Managed and maintained our vRealize Automation and Orchestration platform.Enterprise Automation: Tasked with implementation and operation of enterprise automation based on vRealize Automation and ServiceNow. Its function is to provide Self-Service Provisioning to business stakeholders, utilizing NSX-T, InfoBlox & IBM Big Fix along with vCenter. Design and build workflows in vRealize Orchestrator to automate tasks for the operations group and improve the extensibility of vRealize Automation. Presented at VMworld 2018 featuring the vRealize Automation ITSM plugin for ServiceNow and the journey to self-service provisioning.Software Defined Networking: Assisted with the design and implementation an enterprise deployment of NSX-T. Environment consists of 13 ESXi clusters across 4 vCenters at a single site. Designed and implemented a plan to migrate the majority of legacy networks from physical routing, firewalling and load balancing into virtual services utilizing NSX-T in order streamline networking as well as prepare for the journey to VMC on AWS. Map the network traffic into effective and scoped firewall rules using vRealize Network Insight and vRealize Log nsight.

Implement security controls for new & existing computer systems: Determine appropriate access levels, scan systems, analyze findings, & identify information security risks, vulnerabilities, & other security exposures. Gather & facilitate Data Classification information on structured & unstructured data for all data in electronic format on all department owned & maintained systems. Manage information security risks by working with IT & other Department staff to design & implement appropriate remediation measures. Provide input into the resolution of deficiencies identified by risk assessments, self-assessments, automated assessments, internal & external audits to ensure that appropriate technical measures have been taken. Create user accounts, maintain security access to department Information Technology Systems, revoke user accesses to these systems as needed, & evaluate on a periodic basis access rights & permissions verses what access is required by the user's functional duties.
