About Jonathan Jackson

I'm an aspiring Game Designer with a primary focus on Music Composition. I enjoy being creative and relish the opportunity to express myself. I tend to appreciate the artistic side of things, like writing, music, and other activities that involve character designs and symbols. I thrive when creating new plans, tackling complexity, and innovating. I love to paint broad visions of the future, and new possibilities excite me.Games like Sonic Advance 3 and Retro City Rampage were full of songs I could never forget as a kid and I want to give a similar feeling to those who play the games I work on. I create my songs using FL Studio, using both chiptunes from older game consoles and traditional instruments like piano and violin. My greatest strengths are being able to create a lot of melodies and layer them in polyphonic textures (multiple instruments playing different melodies simultaneously). I have been composing since January 2017 and have been learning a lot of concepts along the way. Most of my work was written for personal projects, but I have also commissioned over 5 songs for classmates and mentors. I've worked closely with them to ensure I can get just the right sound for them out of my arsenal.

Over the years, I have designed over 5 games using PowerPoint, created physical board and card games, worked in over 10 Unreal Engine projects, and am learning Game Maker Studio 2's language (GML).

On Thursdays at 11:30 a.m., HPU chapel holds their Communion ceremony. I help with setting and packing up most of the instruments including plates, grails, candles, Communion cups and placing the sign out front. Before we take the bread and wine, we sit around the table reflecting on a passage of scripture a volunteer brings for us. With so many of us having different perspectives and interpretations, it really shows the depth of the Bible. Even in ceremonies I have led, I am enamored by how many meanings can come from 1 verse.
  • High Point University
    Teaching Assistant
High Point University Nov 2023 - May 2024
High Point, North Carolina, United States
I worked with Dr. Stefan Hall in his Game Theory/Critique class. My main contributions were 3 guest lectures I created using my knowledge of PowerPoint. Dr. Hall helped me learn the importance of making presentations fun through humor, interesting trivia, and open-ended discussion questions. Those aspects make them very memorable and engaging for the audience. I also assisted with technical issues, syllabus changes, and creating an inviting atmosphere for the students. It was great opportunity!

High Point University Aug 2019 - May 2023
High Point, North Carolina, United States
I was a Game Design major. I worked in a variety of teams to turn ideas into playable games. I've learned the importance of planning, communication, team motivation, and external feedback when creating video games.
  • High Point University
    Esports Coach
High Point University Aug 2021 - Apr 2022
    Rg Wanek Center
I was one of the coaches for the Smash Ultimate team in the 2021-2022 class year. My focus was providing the newer players the strategies they needed to improve. I held my sessions in RG Wanek Center's arcade where I would play against the students to assess their playstyles. From there, I would offer advice from the strengths of their characters to the game's mechanics that the varsity team was practicing. Even though we took the game seriously, I would try finding ways to make it more fun and enjoyable.
