My primary research interests are primarily in catchment physical hydrology, biogeochemistry and water quality, investigating the importance of hydrological connectivity between the terrestrial and aquatic environments, with particular reference to the riparian zone and the influence this particular landscape unit has over water chemistry and quality.Specifically, my research focuses on three areas:Using coupled hydrological-biogeochemical models to disaggregate the spatial distribution of DOC fluxes from different landscape units and assess how their temporal dynamics vary with hydrological connectivity.Utilizing high resolution spatially distributed temperature measurements of surface water (stream and wetlands) and groundwater to gain insight into the factors which drive drives stream water thermal heterogeneity in upland headwater catchments subject to historical land management practices.The use of in-situ dissolved oxygen sensors to assess the temporal and spatial variability in stream ecosystem processes (primary production and respiration) and investigate the controls and drivers of these processes.
