This role is predominately in civil legal aid billing however, some experience of higher criminal legal aid billing has also been acquired. My responsibilities consisted of drafting and processing fixed fee bills and Bill of Costs. This incorporates a number of different aspects; a keen eye for detail in locating necessary Court orders and papers to complete billing bundles; liaising with counsel regarding unpaid fees and the chasing of nil balance fee notes as well as communicating with fee earners in obtaining fully completed FAS forms. On criminal billing, I drafted LF1 bills and also dealt with the advocates’ fee billing in producing the bill the crown court bill on matters. Further my duties included acting as a liaison within other legal firms on a consultancy basis to proceed with work delegated by the TVE billing team, specifically work undertaking by the team relating to work at the respective firms.
