Much of this work involved computer simulation, either using specialised software or programs that were written by myself, often in Fortran.I was involved in the early development of the European Spallation Source.I did a considerable amount of work on the study of stripping foil temperatures for proposed future high intensity proton accelerators. I was involved with the Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ)Test Stand project, for which most recent projects were to develop two novel instrumentswhich were installed and operated on the test stand builtto test the new Radio Frequency Quadrupole (RFQ) which wasplanned to be installed as an early part of theISIS accelerator chain. The description of work done for thiswas made into a published paper in Nuclear Instruments and Methodsand also a Conference Paper for the LINAC Conference.I was also part of the ISIS Accelerator Group, whoseresponsibility it was to maintain and improve the on-siteISIS proton accelerator and neutron source and to run it up to full powerafter shut downs for maintenance or repair. This meant takingturns doing occasional weekend or night shifts in the controlroom during run-up periods. Approximately once a year, either inEurope (EPAC), America (PAC) or Asia (APAC), there would bea particle accelerator conference. A significant amount of time wasspent writing conference papers about our latest work or resultsin order to better inform the wider particle accelerator communityof our work and in return learn about the workof others. In addition there would be occasional meetings, eitherinternal or between RAL and Daresbury Laboratory accelerator groups forwhich I gave presentations. Show less
