I oversee AGRA's technical work across all countries and at continental and regional level, spanning Policy and State Capability; Inclusive Markets, Trade and Finance; Seed Systems; Climate Adaptation, Sustainable Agriculture and Resilience; Gender, Youth and Inclusion; and Digitalisation. I also over see AGRA's Data and Analytics Unit.

I supported a new not-for-profit called Growth Teams that supports African and Indian state governments with modern industrial policy, from strategizing through to implementation. The goal is to support governments to strengthen the enabling environment for value-adding investment, job creation and the acceleration of inclusive economic growth. I also was a freelance consultant during this period.

Part of senior management team in TBI's Africa Advisory Division. Directed 5 practices spanning TBI’s work across 16 countries: Industrialisation & Economic Transformation, Agriculture & Food; Energy & Climate, Human Capital Development, and Centre of Government & Delivery. Initiated Industrialisation, Agriculture and Food, Human Capital Development, and Investment practices. Led TBI's Africa work on policy development; monitoring, evaluation and learning; partnerships; business and product development; and internal quality control. Established TBI's project in Malawi, which supports the Presidency with a delivery mechanism.

Advised the President and various Ministers on agro-industrialisation and modern industrial policy. Led a team of 8 advisors to the Government of Liberia on delivery, public finance, infrastructure development, education and economic diversification through agriculture, agro-processing and manufacturing.

Embedded advisor to the National Investment Commission, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. Supported the Government to develop an inclusive growth and economic diversification strategy that was turned into the Liberia Agriculture Transformation Agenda. Supported the start of its implementation.

Embedded advisor in Ministry of Industry and Trade. Supported the Ministry to establish its Trade, Industry and PSD Sector Wide Approach, as the implementation mechanism for the Malawi National Export Strategy 2013-2018, Malawi’s Industrial Policy and various other economic strategies. Assisted it to develop the capacity and secure the resources required to drive these strategies’ implementation. Led the technical team in the Ministry that formulated the National Export Strategy and developed the Ministries National Industrial Policy 2014. The prioritisation of growth clusters in the strategy and policy was based on an application of the Hausmann product space economic growth model to Malawi.

Provided economics advice and technical assistance focused on multi-stakeholder coordination, prioritisation and strategic focus to build the productive economy and trade capacity. Provided mentoring, analysis and research services on a bespoke basis, primarily to governments and development partners. Completed assignments for the EU, World Bank, DFID, USAID, WTO, UNDP and Trade Mark Southern Africa. Most of the work was with the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Malawi, while he also interacted regularly with the Malawian Ministries of Finance, Economic Development and Planning and Agriculture and Food Security. He regularly interacted with a wide range of development partners with operations in Malawi and neighbouring countries.

Wrote a strategy for the IFC to provide advisory services to the Government of Guyana to reform its business enabling environment. This was based on Guyana's performance on the World Bank's Doing Business Index.

Reviewed donor funded projects that were conducted in Guyana between 2000 and 2010 in the fields of poverty reduction and economic development. This served as an input into the Guyana Common Country Assessment 2012-2014 for the UNDP.

Embedded advisor in Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. Served as lead Economist in unit tasked with driving the implementation of private sector enabling environment reforms, such as SME Sector Support, Fair Competition, Consumer Affairs, Doing Business, Corporate Governance, Trade Facilitation and other areas. Mentored four local Economists in the Unit. Served as secretariat and facilitator for numerous public-private dialogue bodies.

Completed the 2-year ODI Fellowship.

Conducted micro and macro economic analysis for private sector clients and government agencies. Focused on economic impact assessments, regional analysis and market sizing, in particular for the financial sector. Led the company's macroeconomic forecasting service for two years. Conducted business development activities, delivered macroeconomic forecast presentations and served as account manager for 5 key clients.
