I have been involved in print media and marketing for some time. During that time, I have managed almost every kind of segment of the printing industry, from design and delivery of consumer packaging to list purchasing and final sorting for direct mail. And while my resume says technical production manager, I have found that my true talent is leading and guiding those involved in the client engagement process.Other than the usual accomplishments like converting unremunerative accounts and making them profitable or a department in disarray and bringing order to its processes. My favorite challenge, and probably most gratifying, is to earn the respect of the employees that I work with and that report to me. When asked about my management style I like to say “supportive”. It is my responsibility to make sure that everyone in the process has the tools and information necessary to complete the task, whether it is an enterprise wide software implementation or just getting a shipment out on time. I truly believe that every employee wants to do a good job but that they feel helpless and frustrated by the barriers they encounter.
